There are many meditations that exist and every meditation will do something slightly different or have a different effect on the energy and physical body. The idea of explaining how to meditate isn’t a straight forward set of procedures to follow because it is a very personal thing. Some people may choose to meditate through guided meditations, some with the use of a mantra or some by sitting in a quiet space.
Invoke for Divine blessings
Whichever method you choose you must always remember that it is critical to invoke for Divine blessings. I had a client recently who advised me that she never invokes for Divine blessings because she was naturally protected. Unfortunately, I had to advise her that under no circumstances can this be the case. The only protector is the Divine spirit or God (there are many names for the Lord but I will use Divine). This is an undisputed point of fact given that the Divine is the highest power.
Years ago, Christians/ Catholics were advised to kneel before their bedside and recite the Lord’s Prayer before going to sleep. The purpose of this practice is to invoke for Divine blessings before the soul leaves the physical body (to frequent the Astral plane) when the body is at rest or sleep; thereby protecting both when they are extremely vulnerable.
Guided Meditation
So, thinking about how to meditate, what’s the benefit of a guided meditation? The answer is that it depends on what you want to achieve. Another client advised me recently that he practices a grounding meditation as advised by a Counsellor/ Talking Therapist. The effect of a grounding meditation is that the Basic chakra becomes activated. As this client was in fact, suffering from issues with anger this is the worst meditation for him to perform as it was constantly reinforcing the problem. What he needed was the exact opposite, namely a meditation to activate his higher chakras to counter the overactivation of the lower ones.
The meditation that I recommended (and practice daily) is the Meditation on Twin Hearts for Peace and Illumination by Master Choa Kok Sui. This meditation is one of the best in existence as it offers (with regular use) so many benefits including, (but certainly not limited to) the simultaneous activation of the Crown and Heart chakras, a reduction in anxiety, the cleansing and energising of the aura, mental clarity and increased intelligence. When thinking about how to meditate, this meditation, I refer you to the Do’s and Don’ts of meditation in Part 1 and Part 2 of this article. Please note that in the recording/CD the invocation is included at the beginnings of this mediation and grounding after this meditation is included at the end. This meditation should not be practiced by children under the age of 15 because the meditation is far too powerful. Our chakras are still developing until the body is around 10 years old and therefore are not able to cope with such a powerful meditation until the body is around 15 years old.
The Lords’ Prayer can also be practised as a meditation; the effects of which are cleansing on the aura and balancing of the chakras when done regularly and correctly.
Mantras
In terms of Mantras there are many. Each religion has its own, Christianity for example has ‘Amen’, although the faith doesn’t practice this as a mantra. Amen is one of the many words for God and it raises our vibrations.
When thinking about how to meditate on an individual basis, I personally recite the Gayatri Mantra every morning as part of my morning practice. This mantra is cited widely by Hindu texts such as the Bhagavad Gita. This mantra is connected to the Solar Logos/Solar Deity. Again, there are many benefits associated with the recital of this mantra, including raising the vibration of the soul, increasing mental clarity and emotional stability, purifying the chakras and the aura.
OM
Arguably, when thinking about how to mediate, one of the most widely used mantras, throughout the world, is that of ‘OM’. The symbol of OM is first mentioned in the Upanishads (thought to be dated between c.800- c.500 BCE).
OM is the universal sound for the Divine. God is OMnipotent, OMnisicient, and OMnipresent after all. Meditating on the mantra OM focus’ the mind as it cannot think of anything else whilst the mantra is being chanted (hence why union with the Divine can be found in the silence between the OM’s) and it raises our energy/vibration and shifts consciousness to a higher level.
Silence
As long as you practice this correctly, i.e. following the do’s and don’ts of meditation then sitting in silence also has benefits.
